Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Create

By

“Creativity is contagious. Pass it on.” — Albert Einstein

Create – something most of us do every day. Whether photographer or writer or both. In fact, creating through photography is my passion – some may say vice. As I travel, whether across town or across the globe, I enjoy seeing the creativity of others, be they a street vendor selling silks in Laos, a woodcarver in Tanzania, or a potter at a street fair in my home town.

The Balinese are one of the most creative and artistic cultures I have encountered, and yet, their language never had a word for “art.” In fact, “artists” and “craftspeople” were known as “workers.” The Balinese are very spiritual; over 98% are followers of the Balinese version of Hinduism. Traditionally, the creation of objects d’art, together with music and dance, has formed an integral part of Balinese religious life, being designed solely for the delight of deities.Today, the gods have to share Bali’s creativity with the hoards of tourists descending on the island – the subject of a future blog.

I recently wrote about “Photography and the Creative Spirit” on my photography website. Please pay it a visit.

Creative vision is the most important, ever changing, and most illusive ingredient that sets the exceptional photograph apart from the rest. Creative vision is seeing in your mind’s eye the perfect version, the final print, of what is before you and your camera lens.
