Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Child Hunger Anywhere is Wrong

By

Child hunger is wrong period. And largely preventable. Malnourishment is caused not just by the lack of adequate food, but by parasites from unclean drinking water.

This little fellow is standing in a corn field. The distended belly is an indication of malnutrition likely caused by the lack of clean drinking water, not the lack of food.

The white tufts of hair on the boy on the left is another sign of malnutrition. I observed that he was so weak that standing was difficult. The boys are sitting near a garden and in front of a pigpen. Obviously, food is available. Their health issues, also, are probably the lack of clean drinking water and not lack of food.

These little guys are peering through a fence watching other children from their village eating a hot lunch while attending preschool. Not every child can afford this luxury.

Child hunger, to varying degrees, is everywhere. It is an unconscionable but very complex problem rooted in corruption, greed, and lack of education.
